Since the Middle Ages, a vast covered wholesale food market has existed in Paris in the Halles district. An emblematic place in the French collective imagination, it moved at the end of the 1960s to Rungis in the Val-de-Marne, at the gates of the capital. This gigantic market reserved for professionals has a surface area of 234 hectares. Today it is divided into 5 universes: fruits and vegetables, fish and shellfish, meat, dairy products and flowers. It is the largest fresh produce market in the world. More than 12,000 people work there. For La Plateforme de Sons d’hiver, the members of the Ile-de-France Coax Collective immersed themselves in this mecca of commerce and gastronomy to create a series of sound, musical and/or radio creations to be discovered in 2023 and 2024.
